Our Wines
First and Foremost, We are Farmers.
Neil’s third-generation agricultural background drove his inspiration for establishing a winery and is the foundation of the Cooper winemaking philosophy. The wines present a true reflection of our vineyard, our farming, and the growing season. We believe that authenticity in winemaking means the vineyard has the loudest voice in the finished wine.
Cooper wines are entirely estate-grown and farmed. They are built with the classic Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Carménère. This is our focus, as these varietals thrive in the growing conditions presented by Red Mountain. We find Carménère particularly intriguing; we farm the largest and earliest plantings on Red Mountain.
We want our varietal wines to speak to our vineyard and be pure expressions—so, these wines are always 100% true to the grape. By focusing on the vineyard first and farming for the best quality and balance, we never need to rely on blending to build complexity and character in our varietal wines.
This also allows our wine blends, C4 and L’inizio, to stand as intentional family portraits of our vineyard. C4 is a modern blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Carménère. L’inizio, meaning beginning, represents our original mega-blend, featuring all six Bordeaux varietals.
